PROJECT DURATION: 2010-2013
PRIORITY: Safe and healthy environment

PROJECT OVERVIEW:
Significant quantities of still edible food end up as waste in the EU area on a daily basis. Furthermore, this waste is being dumped as landfill without effective handling and utilization.
The SUSBIO project aims to develop tools for added sustainability of the food value chain in order to reduce the total environmental load on the Baltic Rim area. The project is in line with the EU waste framework directive (2008/98/EC).
SUSBIO considers waste management and material efficiency through new sustainable processes. The focus is on developing methods for economic utilization of industry byproducts and other biomaterials, while applying the remains to energy production in integrated biofuel processes.
